As a site monitor and moderator, Karen integrated social media into the classroom. A challenge was to engage and provide enough incubator posts to reach all students from which they could relate to and stem further posts to help them to reach their participation requirements.
Here are some sample postings of main classroom participation posts: A measure of how effective a post was by the number of responses it generated. In this case, 15 students created 86 response posts.

Sales & Marketing Communications Content
Karen has herself been held directly responsible for the movement of products and services. Her writing and professional marketing communications skills have sealed her success in many ventures.
Here is how she describes what it was like to have written copy for the CBS Best of Series. “This was a particularly interesting challenge in that you were a writer selling a product in the most nuanced methods of name dropping and engineered coincidence.”
Here is an example of having tucked in a few not quite so subliminal references to encourage a reader to consider buying a Honda along with that Memorial Day get away.

“Developing a product having utilized my alma mater network at UCSC, allowed me the privilege of the experience of having brought a product to market and to appreciate what a mammoth undertaking it is.”
Her brochures, flyers, fax blasts and sales slicks helped to put many more products and services on the market and have helped to have created and supported tried and true tests of which pitch has best resonated with which specific marketing communications demographic.
While not yet having finished her master’s degree from the University of Santa Cruz, Karen’s work in school surveying the seismic safety elements of various cities on the golden coast prompted a private engineering firm to hire her to make 5-10 presentations per week to the Realtor community and to also follow up with a regular newsletter that had a mailing list of 10,000 Realtors throughout the state.
Here are a few examples of monthly newsletters for JCP geologists that were snail mailed hard copies over the three-year period in which she tripled sales and quadrupled the size of the company footprint.

News & Feature Articles
Karen is not shy on controversial subject matters. Having come from professional scientific and sales and marketing backgrounds, she can distinguish which is which.
Many times an issue is only controversial because it has been made to appear that way by those standing to lose business. On these matters Karen has chosen to report the actual science.
Below is an an article written by Karen featured on the website of Trace Amounts, a documentary screened in venues worldwide. The national media’s ‘reporting’ only consisted of having repeated one local reporter’s account of having caught the national figure hosting the event, having compared the families phlights depicted in the documentary to an historical savagery.
This effective PR sham resulted in that figure having to apologize rather than to be honored for exposing a vital link, that if acknowledged, could result in the resolution and prevention of serious neurological damage in children.
Karen however, took the attention, time and care to have researched and reported the science.
